Is Door County Even Open in the Winter?

Visitors to Door County often ask people who live here year round, “So what do you do up here in the winter anyway?” As it turns out, quite a lot actually! Although most folks are most familiar with Door County in the summer, the late fall and early winter bring a quiet charm and an exquisite beauty of a different kind. Make some time and head to Door County right now and enjoy this special time of year. One of the best parts of winter is ice skating! The Teresa K. Hilander Community Ice Rink is located right in the middle of the of the Sister Bay Sports Complex, not too far from downtown Sister Bay. It’s an outdoor rink that offers skates to rent and has a warming house with snacks and hot drinks. There is also an outdoor fire pit, perfect for thawing out after a great skate! The rink is open mid-December through February, weather permitting. For broomball fans, games are played on Wednesday nights! Check out the latest info at: www.facebook.com/sisterbayicerink/. The Sturgeon Bay Ice Rink is located across from Sturgeon Bay High School. Skates are free and it’s open weekday evenings and during the day on the weekends. It is also an outdoor rink, open through the winter months, weather permitting.

Think that it’s too cold for Farmers Market fun? It’s never too cold in Baileys Harbor! All the delights of the Baileys Harbor Farmers Market move indoors to the Baileys Harbor Town Hall Auditorium. Browse and enjoy from 10:00am-2:00pm on the following Sundays: November 9, November 30, December 14, & 21, January 11, February 8, March 14, and April 11.  

Get ready for the holidays by enjoying the 2019 Sturgeon Bay Art Crawl. Twenty-four local artists open their working spaces on Friday, Saturday and Sunday November 22-24, from 10:00am-4:00pm each day. Meet and visit with the artists and choose from a large variety of artistic mediums, including: paintings, mixed media, framed prints, pottery, woodworking, glass, jewelry, fiber, and sculpture for purchase. Refreshments will be available at many of the studios and galleries. A kick-off party happens on Friday evening November 22 from 5:00-7:00 pm at SWY, 235 N. 3rd Ave., Sturgeon Bay, WI.
