The wind storm on September 29, 2011 did a lot of damage to trees and property across Door County. We were very fortunate that our power was only out for a day and no trees damaged our building. Unfortunately, our Black Locust trees out front were not so lucky. A big branch from one of the trees fell across our road. The wind storm also cracked both of them. We then saw rot in one of them. We were very sad but we had to cut down the beautiful Black Locust trees in front of the restaurant this fall. We had a few professionals look at them and they said the trees could fall at any point on a windy day. I added a photo which shows the rot in the one of the trees. So sadly we had to take them out. We are working on plans for what we are going to do to replace them. We are trying to decide on a type of tree to plant or if we should add flower beds. We have also thought of putting a nice flag pole. Feel free to share any ideas! ...

The 2011 season was a great one for us at the café and motel. Shane and I have now completed two years as owners and three years at Julie’s. This past season was filled with excitement and growth. We have grown as owners and people. This year we have met many great people that have come into the restaurant and motel, and hopefully many of them will not only be customers but also friends. We hope everyone left happy, had a great experience and will return next year for another great Door County experience. Each new day brought challenges and excitement. We had a great staff that made the year even better. Our kitchen staff has been here for years and they continue to make delicious food for our guests. Our front staff had great leaders in Debra (crazy socks), Amy and Jordan. Mario and Lili did a great job taking care of our little motel. We would like to thank our staff for all their help. We would also like to thank our customers for their patronage and hope they return for another great season in 2012!
